Using a Telstra USB 4G device, this leading-edge technology gives you the ability to do more things on the network at the same time where coverage is available.

Customers using this device in the central business districts (within 5kms from the GPO) of all Australian Capital CBDs, and within 3kms of the GPO in selected regional locations2, will experience the benefits of 4G.

The Telstra USB 4G device operates across 4G and 3G technology, giving you access to the benefits of 4G where it is available. It automatically switches to our HSPA enabled 3G Next G network when outside 4G coverage areas.

The Telstra USB 4G device is the fastest mobile broadband device in Australia, with typical download speeds ranging from 2Mbps to 40Mbps in Capital CBDs and selected areas1. This is up to two times faster than the typical speeds you’ll get with the Telstra Ultimate® 3G device. Outside of these 4G coverage area you’ll still be able to access our leading 3G HSPA enabled network, which covers more than 99% of the Australian population.

Things you need to know

  1. Actual speeds vary due to factors such as distance from the base station, local terrain, user numbers, hardware and software configuration and download source / upload destination.

  2. Capital CBD means within 5km from the GPO of capital cities. Selected regional locations means within 3km of the town centre for the selected regional locations.

4G / LTE Network Speeds: with the Telstra BigPond 4G USB customers can experience typical download speeds of 2Mbps–40Mbps, and typical upload speeds of 1Mbps–10Mbps which are initially available in all capital CBD's (meaning within 5km from GPO) and associated airports, and approximately 80 regional locations (meaning 3km of regional town centre) covering more than 40 per cent of the population by the end of 2011. When outside the 4G / LTE coverage areas your Telstra / Bigpond 4G USB will automatically switch over to Telstra's advanced High Speed Packet Access or HSPA enabled 3G network which is available across more than 2.1M sq km to 99 per cent of the population.

3G HSPA+ and HSPA Network Speeds: With capable devices, typical download speeds are 1.1Mbps–20Mbps in all capital CBD's, airports, much of the associated metropolitan areas and many regional and other locations covering more than 60 per cent of the population. Outside these areas, the remaining metropolitan areas and many other regional and rural locations typical download speeds are 550kbps to 8Mbps covering more than 93 per cent of the population, and elsewhere 550kbps to 3Mbps. Typical customer upload speeds are 300kbps–3Mbps in all capital cities and major regional areas covering more than 90 per cent of the population and elsewhere 300kbps–1Mbps.
